Certified protection for modern contaminants.

Health Canada's tightened PFAS guidance and ongoing lead service-line replacements make certified point-of-use reduction a priority in older neighbourhoods and sensitive households.

  • NSF/ANSI certified lead and PFAS reduction options
  • Under-sink RO is the most reliable residential approach
  • Bridge protection while municipal line replacement catches up

When you need pfas & lead reduction

  • Older home or neighbourhood with lead service lines
  • Wanting certified PFAS reduction at the drinking tap
  • Pregnancy, infant formula or higher-sensitivity households
  • Municipal replacement timelines that still leave months or years of risk

Lead at the tap

Lead risk is highest where older service lines or plumbing can leach into drinking water — especially with corrosive water chemistry. Cities across Canada are replacing lead services, but home filtration is the fast layer of protection for cooking and drinking water while that work continues.

Look for filters or RO systems certified for lead reduction (commonly NSF/ANSI 53 or 58, depending on technology).

PFAS and updated guidance

PFAS are persistent 'forever chemicals' tied to industrial history, firefighting foams and other sources. Health Canada has tightened objectives, which has more homeowners asking for proven reduction at the kitchen tap.

Certified reverse osmosis is generally the most reliable residential drinking-water approach. Some carbon products claim partial PFAS reduction — verify the specific compounds and certification rather than marketing language alone.

Point-of-use vs whole-home

Most lead and PFAS strategies focus on drinking and cooking water (kitchen RO or certified faucet filters). Whole-home treatment for these contaminants is less common residentially and much more expensive — your installer will scope what matches your risk and budget.

Typical cost in Canada

Certified under-sink RO for lead/PFAS goals typically overlaps standard RO pricing (about $400–$1,500+ installed). Specialty certified faucet systems can be less; whole-home approaches are a different budget entirely.

Maintenance

Certification only holds if you change filters and membranes on schedule. Keep a log of cartridge dates — overdue carbon or RO pre-filters undermine performance.

Common questions

Is a pitcher filter enough for lead?
Only if it is explicitly certified for lead reduction and you keep cartridges on schedule. Under-sink RO is more robust for household drinking water.
Does whole-home carbon remove PFAS?
Some systems reduce certain PFAS compounds, but certified RO remains the most reliable residential drinking-water solution. Get certification claims in writing.
Should I replace pipes or filter?
Service-line replacement is the long-term municipal/home fix for lead lines. Filtration protects you in the meantime and still helps where plumbing alloys or solder are the source.
Can I taste PFAS or lead?
No. You need testing and/or certified treatment based on risk — taste is not a guide.
