Private wells across cottage country, acreages and rural Canada often carry iron, manganese and hydrogen sulphide. Dedicated oxidation and filtration clears staining and odour.
Dissolved (ferrous) iron is clear in the pipe and turns orange when it oxidizes in air or laundry — classic rust stains. Manganese can look black or brown. Hydrogen sulphide gas creates the rotten-egg smell, sometimes worse on hot water.
