Best water softener approach for Ontario wells

Ontario wells often combine hardness with iron and sulphur. Softener sizing only works after a proper test and pretreatment plan.

Why Ontario wells are tricky

Rural Ontario groundwater frequently carries hardness plus iron, manganese or sulphur. A softener bought for hardness alone can foul quickly.

Sensible order of operations

  1. Lab test
  2. Sediment and iron/sulphur as needed
  3. Softener sized to grains and peak flow
  4. UV for bacteria risk
  5. Kitchen RO for drinking water

Municipal Ontario note

City homes in the GTA, Ottawa and southwestern Ontario more often start with softener plus carbon, then RO.
