Sulphur water treatment: clearing rotten-egg wells

Hydrogen sulphide needs oxidation, aeration or specialised media — not perfume and not a softener alone.

Looking for a lab or free test option? Find a Water Test · Not sure which system you need? Run the Water Problem Wizard for a recommended stack and installed cost ranges.

Confirm the source

Smell at all cold taps points to the well. Hot-only smell may be the water heater anode. A pro can isolate the culprit quickly.

Treatment options

Aeration, oxidizing filters and catalytic carbon variants are common. Choice depends on sulphur level, iron, pH and flow rate.

Pair with the rest of the train

Sulphur systems often sit with sediment pretreatment, softener and UV when bacteria is also a risk.
