Do I need reverse osmosis?

RO is the best everyday point-of-use option for PFAS, lead, nitrates and dissolved solids — but it is not a whole-home softener replacement.

Looking for a lab or free test option? Find a Water Test · Not sure which system you need? Run the Water Problem Wizard for a recommended stack and installed cost ranges.

When RO makes sense

  • You want better drinking and cooking water
  • Lab results show metals, nitrates or PFAS of concern
  • You dislike TDS, sodium taste after softening, or municipal flavour

When something else comes first

Hardness, heavy iron or bacteria need whole-home stages before or beside RO. UV does not replace RO; RO does not disinfect like UV.

Cost reality

Installed under-sink RO in Canada often runs about $400–$1,500 depending on remineralisation and faucet quality. Budget for annual filter changes.
