Do I need reverse osmosis?
RO is a point-of-use option for dissolved contaminants when the exact model carries the needed reduction claim—but it is not a whole-home softener replacement.

When RO makes sense
- You want better drinking and cooking water
- Lab results show metals, nitrates or PFAS of concern
- You dislike TDS, sodium taste after softening, or municipal flavour
When something else comes first
Hardness, heavy iron or bacteria need whole-home stages before or beside RO. UV does not replace RO; RO does not disinfect like UV.
Cost reality
Installed under-sink RO in Canada often runs about $400–$1,500 depending on remineralisation and faucet quality. Budget for annual filter changes.
